Write an Effective Agent Bio

Typewriter

Put your best foot forward for your clients (and colleagues).

Writing a compelling real estate agent bio is essential in gaining clients and doing business. Your bio shows your experience as an agent, specialties, and personality, helping clients decide whether to work with you.

Writing about yourself can be pretty tricky. We’ve gathered seven tips to help you get started and write an excellent agent introduction.

1. Decide What to Include

Over your life, you’ve accomplished many things personally and professionally. Many of these help you stand out from the crowd. The key is to find and include the things that help you gain clients, grow your network, build trust, and inspire confidence.

Consider including some of the following:

  • Awards and certificates you have received
  • Sales statistics
  • Client testimonials
  • A quote from a well-known professional
  • Your experience in real estate, like years in the business or annual volume
  • Your work background
  • Hobbies and interests

2. Keep It Short

Short, concise statements are the best way to get your message across. Short bios also encourage clients to read them in their entirety, rather than just skim.

3. Tell a Story

Stories are a great way to engage your readers and make your bio more unique. When telling a story, make sure it relates to real estate and who you are. You may want to tell a story about how you got your start in the real estate industry or why you love your job. Stories captivate readers and help clients get to know you better before working with you.

4. Be Personable

Gaining clients and closing deals are your goals, but you need to be personable to do so. People prefer working with individuals they like. It also builds trust with your clients.  Coming off as a real person helps establish that trust. Depending on where you intend to use your bio (website, flyer, postcard, etc.), you may want to include some fun facts or a photo of your family.

When clients can relate to you, they will be more likely to work with you.

5. Don’t Embellish

It can be tempting to embellish when you’re writing a bio. You want to come off as successful and experienced as possible, but make sure you don’t include things that aren’t factual. If you feel like your bio needs more to round it out, consider taking a class or networking with other agents. Doing these will benefit you personally and professionally doesn’t just look good on paper; it also helps your business grow!

6. Talk About Your Community Connections

Clients want to work with someone familiar with the area, so be sure to share how well you know the community. Mention how long you’ve been working in the area, or talk about your support of the community. If you’re new to an area, mention what you are doing to become a neighborhood expert.

7. Consider Writing a Few Versions

You will use your bio in many different ways. Your website, your social media accounts, postcards, flyers, your brokerage’s website are just a few.  That is why you need a few different versions of your bio to fit all those scenarios. Bios for social media should be shorter, as some platforms have character limits. A description for the ‘About’ section on your website could be multiple paragraphs and include more photos. Having a few versions ready will keep you prepared for anything that comes your way!
